Cancun Hotel Zone

Cancun actually consists of two places: Cancun city and the Cancun Hotel Zone (Cancun Island), which are both located in the province of Quintana Roo in Mexico. Cancun city consists mainly of the industrial operations and businesses whereas the Hotel Zone mainly consists of resorts, restaurants and nightclubs.

The hotel zone is located mainly on a sandbar that is 15 miles long, but only ¼ mile wide! There are only two entrances into the hotel zone, one on either end of the sandbar, and finding these entrances from the mainland is a bit tricky, as usually there is only one small sign right before the turnoff from the main highway so keep your eyes peeled.

Between the mainland and the Hotel Zone sits the calm waters of the Laguna, Laguna de Nichupte. On the other side of the sandbar sits the Caribbean Sea. Most major resorts and shops sit on the side that faces the Sea, however due to space limitations more shops have started building on the Laguna side.

Along the hotel zone there are mainly Resorts, with restaurants, bars, nightclubs, shops and some condos mixed in.
